Each scout should have some spending money for the week. In the past, $30 has been the norm. There is a "Trading Post" which has candy, snacks, ice cream etc as well as scout items. Each scout will have a "bank account" and can only get money 2 times a day. the money will be under double lock and key by an adult the entire time we are at camp.
The information below should help in answering many questions you may have about summer camp. The information contains Camp descriptions, postal address for mail, Suggested items to bring to camp (also contained in the email), schedules and additional fees, merit badge pre-requirements (suggested), and finally maps to get to camp.
Please remember that guests are allowed but you must check in to the registration office before you enter camp. Friday is family night with a meal available between 5:30 and 6:30. I'm not sure the cost for the meal this year.
Please make sure you review the handout to ensure your son is adequately prepared for camp. The long term forecast is highs in the 80's and lows in the low 60's. Although the camp has a great deal of shade, a water jug should be his best friend.....
Troop 7, Campsite #10 (Terhar)
581 Ibold Rd
Loveland, OH 45140
Adult Leadership at camp will be: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. The camp is located (map) on the northeast side of Cincinnati near Loveland, OH. The camp office phone number is 513-831-8311
* Merit Badges – Make sure the pre-reqs are done by the 16th so Mr. Repp can sign them off before leaving for camp
* The camp wishes no sandals at camp but will leave the decision up to the Scoutmasters. For this reason, I will be requiring the scouts to wear regular shoes during the day and all meals. The exceptions will be for travel to and from the waterfront (lake), to the shower house and within our tent area. If a scout is found wearing sandals outside these areas we will be taking the footwear for the remainder of the week.
* The trading post at camp is first rate. The scouts can get everything there from film to ice cream. Your son should bring along some money to spend. One of the scoutmasters will operate a bank teller and hand out money according to wishes of the scouts. $30 seems to be a good amount for the week . Your son should also bring extra money to cover the expenses from some of the merit badges he will take.
* Troop item - Should your son want to bring food snack items to camp, please pack in 1/2 full paper bag, labeled and bring on Saturday. Do not pack in the footlocker. We will have a box available to store these items so we do not get wildlife inside the tents.
We will be sleeping in camp provided tents which have cots and mattresses, 2 to a tent. It is for this reason that each scout should have a "foot locker" to store his gear. This should not be an expensive item and not much more than a large plastic storage container about 3-4 feet long, 1.5 feet high and 1.5 feet wide. These can be easily found at KMART, TARGET or WAL-MART. PepBoys has lockable trunks for about $30. These are plastic with an included key lock. Try to get a container which can be locked with a padlock. In general there is no theft in camp but a little deterrent can go a long way.
Any items which cannot be fit onto the scout trailer will have to be carried by the scout. We will not be able to drive cars to the camp site and it is a good hike to our camp. Have your son bring only the essential items which will fit in his foot locker. I am guessing that worse case each scout will have to carry his sleeping bag and pillow.
